Objectives. Although some studies have shown role stressors can lead to unsafe behaviors, it is unclear how role stressors induce delivery riders' unsafe behaviors. We found that delivery riders suffered from tremendous role stressors during the delivery process and had to conduct frequent smartphone interactions. This study aimed to explore the effects of role stressors and smartphone interactions on delivery riders' unsafe behaviors. Methods. First, a questionnaire survey (N = 326) was used to collect data, and correlation and regression analyses were conducted to explore the relationship between role stressors, smartphone interaction frequency and delivery riders' unsafe behaviors. Second, a scenario survey (N = 35) was conducted, and comparative analysis was used to further explore how smartphone interactions affect delivery riders' unsafe behaviors. Results. The questionnaire survey revealed that role stressors, smartphone interaction frequency and delivery riders' unsafe behaviors were positively correlated. In addition, the role stressors forced delivery riders to conduct necessary and unnecessary smartphone interactions. The scenario survey found that smartphone interactions reduced delivery riders' motion speed and motion ability, and increased their psychology, so they had a risk-taking mentality, which led to an increase in unsafe behaviors.

The chemical composition and nutritional content of garlic are greatly impacted by its production location, leading to distinct flavor profiles and functional properties among garlic varieties from diverse origins. Consequently, these variations determine the preference and acceptance among diverse consumer groups. In this study, purple-skinned garlic samples were collected from five regions in China: Yunnan, Shandong, Henan, Anhui, and Jiangsu Provinces. Mid-infrared spectroscopy and ultraviolet spectroscopy were utilized to analyze the components of garlic cells. Three preprocessing methods, including Multiple Scattering Correction (MSC), Savitzky-Golay Smoothing (SG Smoothing), and Standard Normalized Variate (SNV), were applied to reduce the background noise of spectroscopy data. Following variable feature extraction by Genetic Algorithm (GA), a variety of machine learning algorithms, including XGboost, Support Vector Classification (SVC), Random Forest (RF), and Artificial Neural Network (ANN), were used according to the fusion of spectral data to obtain the best processing results. The results showed that the best-performing model for ultraviolet spectroscopy data was SNV-GA-ANN, with an accuracy of 99.73%. The best-performing model for mid-infrared spectroscopy data was SNV-GA-RF, with an accuracy of 97.34%. After the fusion of ultraviolet and mid-infrared spectroscopy data, the SNV-GA-SVC, SNV-GA-RF, SNV-GA-ANN, and SNV-GA-XGboost models achieved 100% accuracy in both training and test sets. Although there were some differences in the accuracy of the four models under different preprocessing methods, the fusion of ultraviolet and mid-infrared spectroscopy data yielded the best outcomes, with an accuracy of 100%. Overall, the combination of ultraviolet and mid-infrared spectroscopy data fusion and chemometrics established in this study provides a theoretical foundation for identifying the origin of garlic, as well as that of other agricultural products.

OBJECTIVES: The elimination of mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of syphilis has been set as a public health priority. However, an instrument to predict the MTCT of syphilis is not available. We aimed to develop and validate an intuitive nomogram to predict the individualised risk of MTCT in pregnant women with syphilis in China. DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. SETTING: Data was acquired from the National Information System of Prevention of MTCT of Syphilis in Guangdong province between 2011 and 2020. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 13 860 pregnant women with syphilis and their infants were included and randomised 7:3 into the derivation cohort (n=9702) and validation cohort (n=4158). PRIMARY OUTCOME MEASURES: Congenital syphilis. RESULTS: Among 13 860 pregnant women with syphilis and their infants included, 1370 infants were diagnosed with congenital syphilis. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression and multivariable logistic regression showed that age, ethnicity, registered residence, marital status, number of pregnancies, transmission route, the timing of syphilis diagnosis, stage of syphilis, time from first antenatal care to syphilis diagnosis and toluidine red unheated serum test titre were predictors of MTCT of syphilis. A nomogram was developed based on the predictors, which demonstrated good calibration and discrimination with an area under the curve of the receiver operating characteristic of 0.741 (95% CI: 0.728 to 0.755) and 0.731 (95% CI: 0.710 to 0.752) for the derivation and validation cohorts, respectively. The net benefit of the predictive models was positive, demonstrating a significant potential for clinical decision-making. We have also developed a web calculator based on this prediction model. CONCLUSIONS: Our nomogram exhibited good performance in predicting individualised risk for MTCT of syphilis, which may help guide early and personalised prevention for MTCT of syphilis.

Most lakes in the world are permanently or seasonally covered with ice. However, little is known about the distribution of microbes and their influencing factors in ice-covered lakes worldwide. Here we analyzed the microbial community composition in the waters of 14 ice-covered lakes in the Hoh Xil region of northern Qing-Tibetan Plateau (QTP), and conducted a meta-analysis by integrating published microbial community data of ice-covered lakes in the tripolar regions (the Arctic, Antarctica and QTP). The results showed that there were significant differences in microbial diversity, community composition and distribution patterns in the ice-covered tripolar lakes. Microbial diversity and richness were lower in the ice-covered QTP lakes (including the studied lakes in the Hoh Xil region) than those in the Arctic and Antarctica. In the ice-covered lakes of Hoh Xil, prokaryotes are mainly involved in S-metabolic processes, making them more adaptable to extreme environmental conditions. In contrast, prokaryotes in the ice-covered lakes of the Arctic and Antarctica were predominantly involved in carbon/nitrogen metabolic processes. Deterministic (salinity and nutrients) and stochastic processes (dispersal limitation, homogenizing dispersal and drift) jointly determine the geographical distribution patterns of microorganisms in ice-covered lakes, with stochastic processes dominating. These results expand the understanding of microbial diversity, distribution patterns, and metabolic processes in polar ice-covered lakes.

Background: Leptospirosis is a bacterial zoonosis with variable clinical manifestations. Pulmonary diffuse hemorrhagic leptospirosis often occurs rapidly and, when not promptly diagnosed and treated, it can be life-threatening. Aspergillus flavus is an opportunistic fungus that is commonly seen in immunosuppressed patients. Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis also progresses rapidly. This case study describes a patient with severe pneumonia caused by pulmonary hemorrhagic leptospirosis combined with invasive pulmonary aspergillosis. We have found almost no clinical reports to date on these two diseases occurring in the same patient. Case presentation: A 73-year-old male arrived at our hospital complaining of fever, general malaise, and hemoptysis that had lasted 4 days. The patient was initially diagnosed with severe pneumonia in the emergency department, but he did not respond well to empiric antibiotics. Subsequently, the patient's condition worsened and was transferred to the ICU ward after emergency tracheal intubation and invasive ventilator. In the ICU, antibacterial drugs were adjusted to treat bacteria and fungi extensively. Although the inflammatory indices decreased, the patient still had recurrent fever, and a series of etiological tests were negative. Finally, metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) of bronchial alveolar lavage fluid detected Leptospira interrogans and Aspergillus flavus. After targeted treatment with penicillin G and voriconazole, the patient's condition improved rapidly, and he was eventually transferred out of the ICU and recovered. Conclusion: Early recognition and diagnosis of leptospirosis is difficult, especially when a patient is co-infected with other pathogens. The use of mNGS to detect pathogens in bronchial alveolar lavage fluid is conducive to early diagnosis and treatment of the disease, and may significantly improve the prognosis in severe cases.

Long-term exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) posed injury for gastrointestinal and respiratory systems, ascribing with the lung-gut axis. However, the cross-talk mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we attempted to establish the response networks of lung-gut axis in mice exposed to PM2.5 at environmental levels. Male Balb/c mice were exposed to PM2.5 (dose of 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 mg/kg) collected from Chengdu, China for 10 weeks, through intratracheally instillation, and examined the effect of PM2.5 on lung functions of mice. The changes of lung and gut microbiota and metabolic profiles of mice in different groups were determined. Furthermore, the results of multi-omics were conjointly analyzed to elucidate the primary microbes and the associated metabolites in lung and gut responsible for PM2.5 exposure. Accordingly, the cross-talk network and key pathways between lung-gut axis were established. The results indicated that exposed to PM2.5 0.1 mg/kg induced obvious inflammations in mice lung, while emphysema was observed at 1.0 mg/kg. The levels of metabolites guanosine, hypoxanthine, and hepoxilin B3 increased in the lung might contribute to lung inflammations in exposure groups. For microbiotas in lung, PM2.5 exposure significantly declined the proportions of Halomonas and Lactobacillus. Meanwhile, the metabolites in gut including L-tryptophan, serotonin, and spermidine were up-regulated in exposure groups, which were linked to the decreasing of Oscillospira and Helicobacter in gut. Via lung-gut axis, the activations of pathways including Tryptophan metabolism, ABC transporters, Serotonergic synapse, and Linoleic acid metabolism contributed to the cross-talk between lung and gut tissues of mice mediated by PM2.5. In summary, the microbes including Lactobacillus, Oscillospira, and Parabacteroides, and metabolites including hepoxilin B3, guanosine, hypoxanthine, L-tryptophan, and spermidine were the main drivers. In this lung-gut axis study, we elucidated some pro- and pre-biotics in lung and gut microenvironments contributed to the adverse effects on lung functions induced by PM2.5 exposure.

PURPOSE: Conceptualizing adolescent NSSI and emotional symptoms as a system of causal elements could provide valuable insights into the development of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) in adolescent. This study aimed to explore the intricate relationship between NSSI, depressive symptoms, and anxious symptoms in adolescents, identifying key symptoms to establish a theoretical foundation for targeted and effective interventions addressing NSSI behaviors in this population. METHODS: A total of 412 adolescents with NSSI behaviors were selected from outpatients. Generalized anxious disorder scale (GAD-7) and patient health questionnaire (PHQ-9) were employed to measure anxious symptoms and depressive symptoms, respectively. The adolescent non-suicidal self-injury assessment questionnaire (ANSSIAQ) was used to evaluate NSSI of adolescent. Using network analysis, the NSSI、depressive symptoms and anxious symptoms network were constructed to identify the most central symptoms and the bridge symptoms within the networks. RESULTS: The findings revealed that the NSSI functional nodes "coping with sadness and disappointment" and "relieving stress or anxious" exhibited the strongest correlation, with a regularized partial correlation coefficient was 0.401. The symptoms "having a desire to harm oneself and unable to stop" and the node "depressive symptoms" had the highest strength centrality in the network, and their strength centrality indices were 1.267 and 1.263, respectively. The bridge nodes were "having a desire to harm oneself and unable to stop" and "expressing one's despair and hopelessness", with expected impact indices of 0.389 and 0.396, respectively. CONCLUSION: In adolescents, the network revealed a closer connection between NSSI and depressive symptoms. "The desire to not stop hurting oneself" is not only broadly connected to other nodes but also could activate other nodes to maintain NSSI behavior. In light of these findings, precise targets for pharmacological treatment, psychotherapy, physical therapy, etc., are identified for adolescents with NSSI. Targeting this specific aspect in interventions may contribute to preventing and reducing NSSI behavior in adolescents.

Purpose: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication of acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD), and inflammation is the potential link between AKI and AECOPD. However, little is known about the incidence and risk stratification of AKI in critically ill AECOPD patients. In this study, we aimed to establish risk model based on white blood cell (WBC)-related indicators to predict AKI in critically ill AECOPD patients. Material and Methods: For the training cohort, data were taken from the Medical Information Mart for eICU Collaborative Research Database (eICU-CRD) database, and for the validation cohort, data were taken from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-IV (MIMIC-IV) database. The study employed logistic regression analysis to identify the major predictors of WBC-related biomarkers on AKI prediction. Subsequently, a risk model was developed by multivariate logistic regression, utilizing the identified significant indicators. Results: Finally, 3551 patients were enrolled in training cohort, 926 patients were enrolled in validation cohort. AKI occurred in 1206 (33.4%) patients in training cohort and 521 (56.3%) patients in validation cohort. According to the multivariate logistic regression analysis, four WBC-related indicators were finally included in the novel risk model, and the risk model had a relatively good accuracy for AKI in the training set (C-index, 0.764, 95% CI 0.749-0.780) as well as in the validation set (C-index, 0.738, 95% CI: 0.706-0.770). Even after accounting for other models, the critically ill AECOPD patients in the high-risk group (risk score > 3.44) still showed an increased risk of AKI (odds ratio: 4.74, 95% CI: 4.07-5.54) compared to those in low-risk group (risk score ≤ 3.44). Moreover, the risk model showed outstanding calibration capability as well as therapeutic usefulness in both groups for AKI and ICU mortality and in-hospital mortality of critical ill AECOPD patients. Conclusion: The novel risk model showed good AKI prediction performance. This risk model has certain reference value for the risk stratification of AECOPD complicated with AKI in clinically.

Drug addiction is a multifactorial syndrome in which genetic predispositions and exposure to environmental stressors constitute major risk factors for the early onset, escalation, and relapse of addictive behaviors. While it is well known that stress plays a key role in drug addiction, the genetic factors that make certain individuals particularly sensitive to stress and thereby more vulnerable to becoming addicted are unknown. In an effort to test a complex set of gene x environment interactions-specifically gene x chronic stress -here we leveraged a systems genetics resource: BXD recombinant inbred mice (BXD5, BXD8, BXD14, BXD22, BXD29, and BXD32) and their parental mouse lines, C57BL/6J and DBA/2J. Utilizing the chronic social defeat stress (CSDS) and chronic variable stress (CVS) paradigms, we first showed sexual dimorphism in the behavioral stress response between the mouse strains. Further, we observed an interaction between genetic background and vulnerability to prolonged exposure to non-social stressors. Finally, we found that DBA/2J and C57BL/6J mice pre-exposed to stress displayed differences in morphine sensitivity. Our results support the hypothesis that genetic variation in predisposition to stress responses influences morphine sensitivity and is likely to modulate the development of drug addiction.

Objective: To investigate the regulatory effect of Fas-L on the repair and regeneration of peripheral extension injury in rats. Methods: This study aimed to explore the effects of Fas-L on apoptosis and axonal regeneration of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) cells in rat peripheral nerve repair and regeneration by using several relevant experimental techniques from the injured nerve animal model, cell biology, and molecular biology. Results: The expression level of Fas-L in DRG tissues was significantly down-regulated after sciatic nerve injury. Interference with Fas-L can significantly promote the regeneration of DRG neuronal axons and inhibit apoptosis, while the overexpression of Fas-L is contrary to it. Moreover, Fas-L may play a role in the regulation of DRG function and the repair and regeneration of peripheral nerves in Sprague Dawley (SD) rats by affecting several signaling pathways, such as p-AKT/AKT, ß-catenin, and NF-κB. Conclusion: Fas-L may have a certain effect on the repair and regeneration of peripheral nerve injury in SD rats, which may provide an experimental basis and a new theoretical basis for the functional reconstruction of peripheral nerves. Significance statement: The expression level of Fas-L in DRG tissues was significantly down-regulated after sciatic nerve injury. BACKGROUND: Studies have proved that low albumin level is associated with increased mortality in most diseases, such as chronic kidney disease and hepatic cirrhosis. However, the relationship between albumin and all-cause death in heart failure patients in China is still unclear. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to investigate the association between albumin level and 28-day mortality in Chinese hospitalized patients with NYHA IV heart failure. METHODS: A total of 2008 Chinese patients were included. The correlation between serum albumin level and mortality was tested using a cox proportional hazards regression model. The smooth curve fitting was used to identify non-linear relationships between serum albumin and mortality. The Forest plot analysis was used to assess the association between albumin and 28-day mortality in different groups. RESULTS: Compared with patients with NYHA II-III, patients with NYHA IV had lower albumin level and higher mortality within 28 days. The albumin on admission was independently and inversely associated with the endpoint risk, which remained significant (hazard ratio: 0.80; 95 % confidence interval: 0.66 to 0.96; p = 0.0196) after multivariable adjustment. The smooth curve fitting showed with the increase of albumin, the mortality within 28 days would decrease. A subgroup analysis found that the inverse association between the albumin level and risk of the mortality was consistent across the subgroup stratified by possible influence factors. CONCLUSION: Serum albumin level is negatively associated with 28-day mortality in hospitalized heart failure patients within NYHA IV in China, which can be used as an independent predictor.

The treatment of critical-size bone defects with irregular shapes remains a major challenge in the field of orthopedics. Bone implants with adaptability to complex morphological bone defects, bone-adhesive properties, and potent osteogenic capacity are necessary. Here, a shape-adaptive, highly bone-adhesive, and ultrasound-powered injectable nanocomposite hydrogel is developed via dynamic covalent crosslinking of amine-modified piezoelectric nanoparticles and biopolymer hydrogel networks for electrically accelerated bone healing. Depending on the inorganic-organic interaction between the amino-modified piezoelectric nanoparticles and the bio-adhesive hydrogel network, the bone adhesive strength of the prepared hydrogel exhibited an approximately 3-fold increase. In response to ultrasound radiation, the nanocomposite hydrogel could generate a controllable electrical output (-41.16 to 61.82 mV) to enhance the osteogenic effect in vitro and in vivo significantly. Rat critical-size calvarial defect repair validates accelerated bone healing. In addition, bioinformatics analysis reveals that the ultrasound-responsive nanocomposite hydrogel enhanced the osteogenic differentiation of bone mesenchymal stem cells by increasing calcium ion influx and up-regulating the PI3K/AKT and MEK/ERK signaling pathways. Overall, the present work reveals a novel wireless ultrasound-powered bone-adhesive nanocomposite hydrogel that broadens the therapeutic horizons for irregular bone defects.

BACKGROUND: Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a rapidly progressing chronic liver disease of global significance. However, the underlying mechanisms responsible for NASH remain unknown. Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) has been recognized as essential factor in immune response and metabolic regulation. Here we aimed to investigate the functions and mechanisms of the IDO1 in macrophages on hepatic lipid deposition and iron metabolism in NASH. METHODS: The effect of IDO1 in NASH was evaluated by WT and IDO1-/- mice model fed with methionine/choline-deficient (MCD) diet in vivo. Macrophages scavenger clodronate liposomes (CL) and overexpressing of IDO1 in macrophages by virus were employed as well. Lipid deposition was assessed through pathological examination and lipid droplet staining, while iron levels were measured using an iron assay kit and western blotting. Primary hepatocytes and bone marrow-derived macrophages were treated with oleic acid/palmitic acid (OA/PA) to assess IDO1 expression via Oil Red O staining and immunofluorescence staining in vitro. RESULTS: Pathological images demonstrated that the increase of IDO1 exacerbated lipid accumulation in the livers of mice with MCD diet, while reduction of iron accumulation was observed in the liver and the serum of MCD-fed mice. Scavenging of macrophages effectively mitigated both lipid and iron accumulation. In addition, the deficiency of IDO1 in macrophages significantly mitigated lipid accumulation and iron overload in hepatic parenchymal cells. Finally, lentivirus-mediated overexpression of IDO1 in liver macrophages exacerbated hepatic steatosis and iron deposition in NASH. CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrated that effective inhibition of IDO1 expression in macrophages in NASH alleviated hepatic parenchymal cell lipid accumulation and iron deposition, which provided new insights for the future treatment of NASH.

OBJECTIVE: There is currently no widely accepted multidimensional health assessment questionnaire for individuals in the Chinese People Liberation Army (PLA). This study developed a multidimensional health survey questionnaire (Comprehensive Health Self-Assessment Questionnaire, CHSAQ) suitable for personnel in the PLA and conducted a preliminary examination of its reliability, validity, and discriminative ability. METHODS: After 183 items from 32 dimensions were selected to form the initial version of the CHSAQ, three groups of soldiers were selected from May 2022 to April 2023 and completed three survey rounds (with 183, 131, and 55 valid items). The items were screened based on classic test theory. After screening, the final questionnaire entries were formed, the structure of the questionnaire was explored through exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, and its reliability, structural validity, and discriminative ability were evaluated. RESULTS: The final questionnaire consisted of 8 dimensions and 55 items on job satisfaction, anxiety and depression, daily activities, physical function, the otolaryngology system, the integumentary system, sleep disorders, and the visual system. The total cumulative variance contribution rate was 64.648% according to exploratory factor analysis. According to the confirmatory factor analysis, the normed fit index (NFI) was 0.880, and the comparison fit index (CFI) was 0.893 (close to 0.90). The Cronbach's α coefficient of the total questionnaire was 0.970, the split half reliability coefficient was 0.937, and the retest reliability coefficient was 0.902. The results are presented as different pairwise comparisons. CONCLUSION: Our study developed a self-report questionnaire for evaluating the comprehensive health status of personnel in the PLA in accordance with the standard procedure for questionnaire development. Our findings also showed that the CHSAQ for individuals in the PLA has good reliability and structural validity.

BACKGROUND: Emotional blunting is a symptom that has always been present in depressed patients. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a safe and effective supplementary therapy for treating depression. However, the effectiveness and brain imaging processes of functional magnetic resonance imaging-guided personalized rTMS (fMRI-rTMS) in the treatment of depression with emotional blunting have not been observed in randomized controlled trials. METHODS: This study is a randomized, controlled, double-blind, and single-center clinical trial in which 80 eligible depressed patients with emotional blunting will be randomly assigned to two groups: a functional magnetic resonance imaging-guided personalized rTMS (fMRI-rTMS) group and a control group. Individuals in the fMRI-rTMS group (n = 40) will receive high-frequency rTMS (10 Hz, 120% MT). The main target of stimulation will be the area most relevant to the functional connectivity of the right medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) and amygdala. The control group (n = 40) will receive sham stimulation, with a coil flipped to 90 degrees relative to the vertical scalp. All patients will receive 15 consecutive days of treatment, with each session lasting half an hour per day, followed by 8 weeks of follow-up. The primary outcome is the comparison of Oxford Depression Questionnaire (ODQ) scores between these two groups at different time points. The secondary outcomes include evaluating other clinical scales and assessing the differences in brain imaging changes between the two groups before and after treatment. DISCUSSION: This trial aims to examine the effects of functional magnetic resonance imaging-guided personalized rTMS (fMRI-rTMS) intervention on depressed patients experiencing emotional blunting and to elucidate the potential mechanism behind it. The results will provide new evidence for using fMRI-rTMS in treating depression with emotional blunting in the future. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov INCT05555940. With the increasing demand for high-end materials, trimodal polyethylene (PE) has become a research hotspot in recent years due to its superior performance compared with bimodal PE. By means of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, we aim to expound the effect of the molecular weight distribution (MWD) on the mechanism of nucleation and crystallization of trimodal PE. The crystallization rate is faster when short-chain branching is distributed on a single backbone compared to that on two backbones. In addition, as the content of high molecular weight backbone decreases, the time required for nucleation decreases, but the crystallization rate slows down. This is because low molecular weight backbones undergo intra-chain nucleation and crystallize earlier due to the high diffusion capacity, which leads to entanglement that prevents the movement of medium or high molecular weight backbones. Furthermore, crystallized short backbones hinder the movement and crystallization of other backbones. What is more, a small increase in the high molecular weight branched backbone of trimodal PE can make the crystallinity greater than that of bimodal PE, but when the content of high molecular weight backbone is too high, the crystallinity decreases instead, because the contribution of short and medium backbones to high crystallinity is greater than that of long backbones.

Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) is used for mining information about public health such as antibiotics resistance. This study investigated the distribution profiles of six types of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in wastewater and rivers in Wuhu City, China. The levels of ARGs found in the Qingyijiang River were significantly higher than other rivers, and were comparable to effluent levels. Among the ARGs, sulfonamides ARGs and intI1 were the predominant in both wastewaters and rivers. Additionally, the concentrations of ARGs were higher on weekends as opposed to weekdays. Their distribution patterns remained consistent inter-week and inter-season using linear regression analysis (p < 0.001). Interestingly, the occurrence levels of ARGs in wastewaters during spring were significantly higher than in autumn, although insignificant in rivers. The apparent removal rate of ARGs in domestic wastewater sources ranged from 61.52-99.29%, except for qepA (-1.91% to 81.09%), whereas the removal rates in mixed domestic and industrial wastewaters showed a marked decrease (-92.94% to 76.67%). A correlation network analysis revealed that azithromycin and erythromycin were key antibiotics, while blaNDM-1, tetM, tetB, and ermB were identified as key ARGs. Sulfonamide and fluoroquinolone antibiotics, and tetracycline and macrolide ARGs were the primary contributors. Linear mixed models demonstrated that socio-economic variables positively impacted the occurrence levels of ARGs, whereas wastewater flow and river runoff were the negative drivers for their concentrations in wastewaters and surface waters, respectively. Overall, this WBE study contributes to the understanding of spatiotemporal profiles and main drivers of the occurrence of ARGs in wastewater and receiving water.

BACKGROUND: Anhedonia, which is defined as the inability to feel pleasure, is considered a core symptom of major depressive disorder (MDD). It can lead to several adverse outcomes in adolescents, including heightened disease severity, resistance to antidepressants, recurrence of MDD, and even suicide. Specifically, patients who suffer from anhedonia may exhibit a limited response to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Previous researches have revealed a link between anhedonia and abnormalities within the reward circuitry, making the nucleus accumbens (NAc) a potential target for treatment. However, since the NAc is deep within the brain, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has the potential to modulate this specific region. Recent advances have enabled treatment technology to precisely target the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and modify the functional connectivity (FC) between DLPFC and NAc in adolescent patients with anhedonia. Therefore, we plan to conduct a study to explore the safety and effectiveness of using resting-state functional connectivity magnetic resonance imaging (fcMRI)-guided rTMS to alleviate anhedonia in adolescents diagnosed with MDD. METHODS: The aim of this article is to provide a study protocol for a parallel-group randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled experiment. The study will involve 88 participants who will be randomly assigned to receive either active rTMS or sham rTMS. The primary object is to measure the percentage change in the severity of anhedonia, using the Snaith-Hamilton Pleasure Scale (SHAPS). The assessment will be conducted from the baseline to 8-week post-treatment period. The secondary outcome includes encompassing fMRI measurements, scores on the 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD-17), the Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), the Chinese Version of Temporal Experience of Pleasure Scale (CV-TEPS), and the Chinese Version of Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation (BSI-CV). The Clinical Global Impression (CGI) scores will also be taken into account, and adverse events will be monitored. These evaluations will be conducted at baseline, as well as at 1, 2, 4, and 8 weeks. DISCUSSION: If the hypothesis of the current study is confirmed, (fcMRI)-guided rTMS could be a powerful tool to alleviate the core symptoms of MDD and provide essential data to explore the mechanism of anhedonia. Flexible tactile sensors with multifunctional sensing functions have attracted much attention due to their wide applications in artificial limbs, intelligent robots, human-machine interfaces, and health monitoring devices. Here, a multifunctional flexible tactile sensor based on resistive effect for simultaneous sensing of pressure and temperature is reported. The sensor features a simple design with patterned metal film on a soft substrate with cavities and protrusions. The decoupling of pressure and temperature sensing is achieved by the reasonable arrangement of metal layers in the patterned metal film. Systematically experimental and numerical studies are carried out to reveal the multifunctional sensing mechanism and show that the proposed sensor exhibits good linearity, fast response, high stability, good mechanical flexibility, and good microfabrication compatibility. Demonstrations of the multifunctional flexible tactile sensor to monitor touch, breathing, pulse and objects grabbing/releasing in various application scenarios involving coupled temperature/pressure stimuli illustrate its excellent capability of measuring pressure and temperature simultaneously. These results offer an effective tool for multifunctional sensing of pressure and temperature and create engineering opportunities for applications of wearable health monitoring and human-machine interfaces.

BACKGROUND: Nurses certified in wound, ostomy, and continence (WOC) monitored an increasing incidence of hospital-acquired transnasal tube-related pressure injuries (TTPIs) in a tertiary hospital. Hospital-acquired pressure injuries are one of the most common preventable complications of hospitalization; however, the significance of TTPI prevention must be considered alongside the safety of tube fixation to prevent unplanned extubations (UEs), which are serious adverse events. Thus, exploring a quality improvement (QI) project to effectively reduce the risk of TTPIs while safeguarding tube safety is urgently needed. PURPOSE: To decrease the incidence of TTPIs. METHODS: Inpatients from 2017 to 2018 were set as the control group, using routine precautions. Inpatients from 2019 to 2020 were set as the experimental group, and a bundle of training and clinical practice interventions was implemented to compare the incidence of TTPIs and UEs between the 2 groups. RESULTS: After improvement, the incidence of TTPIs reduced from 1.20% to 0.69%, the incidence of UEs reduced from 2.40% to 1.63%, and the differences were both statistically significant (P < .05). CONCLUSION: The QI project reduced the incidence of TTPIs and UEs, thereby protecting the nasal skin/mucosal surfaces, safeguarding tube fixation, and ultimately improving the quality of clinical care.
